think of Asperger's Syndrome as a disability, and I do in some ways. But
Asperger's is also very much a culture in that "Aspie" people have their own interests,
values, and ways of communication, just as people in foreign countries do ...

I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me... Or feels threatened by me... Or thinks I'm a smart ass... Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here... And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencies is sought... a [BBS] is found. "This is it... this is where I belong..." I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked to them, may never hear from them again... I know you all... [credit]
I COULD HAVE WRITTEN THAT MYSELF BACK IN 1981 OR SO ...
|My name is Jeffrey Bottoms and this
website is all about me ... literally!
I've used the online handle "Silicon Swami" for over two decades. I wrote the book pictured just to the left as part of my therapy sessions after I was diagnosed with high-functioning autism (aka Asperger's Syndrome) in 2008. I knew for years that I was strange but never knew just why. My book was written as a love letter to the thousands of others like me who have the unique and world-changing gift of being on the autism spectrum and find themselves at home working in tech jobs.
We are people like: Einstein, Michelangelo, Davinci, Tesla and so many others...
